Richards Woods
Country Life
12 June – 18 November 2014
Country Life is a brand-new collection of work by British Artist Richard Woods; opening this spring at Albion Barn.
In this unique collaboration, Michael Hue-Williams invited Woods to respond to the environment in which his work would be exhibited, creating something unique that would have legacy in it’s surroundings and a direct response to the Great British countryside setting of Albion Barn.
The result is typically humorous and true to Woods’s style, large-scale installations and sculptures both indoors and outdoors; a clock standing 4 metres high, mockingly designed as a large scale Victorian mantelpiece clock. It will sit perfectly on top of a semi-permanent new building also designed by the artist. Inside the barn, which features a more traditional exhibition space, Woods will transform the environment with his graphic interventions, including flooring, wallpaper, tables, paintings and lighting works. The grounds at Albion Barn will also be home to new arks for the Albion Barn pigs, bird tables and a tennis pavilion, all designed in the Woods’s sharp, comedic style.
Albion Publishing is also producing a new publication of 240 pages, designed by Herman Lelie, including many drawings and collages showing the early design stages for Country Life. It also contains images of the finished works. It will be distributed by Koenig Books – ISBN 978-0-9927171-1-7
