Man, Eagle, and Eye in the Sky

In 2003 ‘Man, Eagle, and Eye in the Sky’ was realised at Siwa Oasis, in the Egyptian Sahara desert by Cai Guo-Qiang, Michael Hue-Williams, Alia Al Senussi, and Sharmini Periera. In collaboration with over 600 school children from 40 schools throughout the governate of Masa Matruh, they created painted silk and bamboo handmade kites. After the participants flew these kites in the desert and in Siwa, Cai proceeded to ignite them with gunpowder along the top of a local mountain in front of a large audience of art collectors and journalists who had flown out for the performance.
